TROUBLESHOOTING

Interior Paints

Wrinkled layer: when finished, the layer is wrinkled, ragged.

+ Causes: The paint layer was too thick, painting on too hot or too cold weather condition, high moisture prevent the drying process, the required time between the painting of layers was not met, the surface is with impurities…
+ Solutions: Remove the layer, clean the surface, apply new primers, make sure the needed time between layers are met and the painting condition is not too hot or cold or damp.

Glossed layer: glossy stain appear

+  Causes: Use flat type pain on surfaces with frequent physical impact or cleaning the surface too frequently, physical impact with wooden object…
+ Solutions: Use high quality emulsify paints on those surfaces, use gloss-paint on areas with frequent physical impact, use soft cloth when cleaning the layer.

Cracked layer: Crack appear on the paint layer

+ Causes: Use low quality paints with poor sticking ability and endurance, the layer was either too thick or too thin, poor surface preparation process, wooden surfaces was not covered with primers, used too hard and crunchy Alkyd paints….
+ Solutions: Use sandpaper, iron brush to remove the affected layer completely, prepare the surface again. For wooden surfaces, use primers before applying layers. Remember to choose high quality products.

Ragged layer: Many flaws appear which made the layer not soft and dotted with bubble

+ Causes: Used low quality paints or expired products, the paints was not mixed well, used wrong type of rollers, rolling too fast during painting process, used high gloss paints on ragged surface…
+ Solutions: Use high quality paints, use right type of rollers for glossy paints, use primers before painting the finishing layer. Use sand paper to prepare the surface then repaint the layer.

Moss appeared on the layer: green, black dots of moss appear on the layer.

+ Causes: High moisture, used alkyd or oil-based paints, low quality emulsify paint on damp surface, painted on moss-covered surfaces without proper surface preparation, primers was not properly applied on wooden surfaces…

+ Solutions: Check if the stain are moss or not (using cleaner), clean the moss with moss-cleaner (remember to wear gloves and protective glass while doing this), re paint by using high quality anti-moss emulsify paints. Provide a fan to create constant air flow in damp areas…

Saponification: On damp surfaces, brown stains appeared.

+ Causes: This happens with almost every type of emulsify paints on high moisture areas, especially the ceiling.

+ Solutions: Use soap to clean the affected area, clear all the stains, wait until the surface is completely dry then apply new paint layers

Contaminated layers: The layer was contaminated with dirt, impurities…

+ Causes: Used low quality paints on surface without primers.

+ Solutions: Remember to use high quality paints with primers to create a strong layer with high resistance to being contaminated and easy to clean

Exterior Paints

Wrinkled layer: when finished, the layer is wrinkled, ragged.

+ Causes: The paint layer was too thick, painting on too hot or too cold weather condition, high moisture prevent the drying process, the required time between the painting of layers was not met, the surface is with impurities…

+ Solutions: Remove the layer, clean the surface, apply new primers, make sure the needed time between layers are met and the painting condition is not too hot or cold or damp.

Chalked layer: After finishing, when touched, the layer gave off chalk like dust.

+ Causes: Low quality paints were used or too many solvents were used when mixing the paints, poor surface preparation process…

+ Solutions: Use sand paper to clean all the dust, reapply the primers then the finishing layers with high quality paints

Layers are coming off after finishing: Layers came off right after painting was finished. It may be some areas or an entire layer came off.

+ Causes: Wooden surfaces get affected by rain or moisture, water was absorbed in to the layers causing it to came off, poor surface preparation process, low quality paints, painting on unfavorable conditions (cold weather, raining..)…

+ Solutions: If it is caused by water absorbing, prevent any source of water or moisture to come in contact with the surface, remove the old layers, applying new primers and finishing layers by high quality water proof paints

Used not suitable paints systems: the sticking ability of layers are low, or coming off

+ Causes: Used wrong paint systems like emulsify paints over alkyd paints/oil-based paints.

+ Solutions: Choose the suitable products line to prevent this from happen. Remove the old layer if not sure what type of paint it was, paint the new layer with right paint systems.

Cracked layer: Crack appeared, scale –like crack appeared.

+ Causes: Use low quality paints with poor sticking ability and endurance, the layer was either too thick or too thin, poor surface preparation process.

+ Solutions: If the crack didn’t reach the mastic layer, remove it with iron brush, paint anew with right paint systems. If the crack reached the mastic, remove everything, start the process from the mastic to finishing layers with high quality products.

Lumpy, swelled layer: paint layers get lumpy, with swelled areas

+ Causes: The reduction of sticking ability due to not favorable painting conditions (too hot or too cold), high moisture condition (especially with intense color tones), used alkyd/oil based paints on damp surfaces, moss contamination of new paint layers…

+ Solutions: Prevent any moisture, create flowing air in the affected areas, remove the affected areas with iron brush the apply new layers with high quality paints with water proof ability

“Crocodile skin“ crack

+ Causes: used hard-nature paints (like the alkyd lines) on flexible paints (like emulsify paints), the required time between layers was not met.

+ Solutions: Use iron brush or sandpaper to remove the affected areas, paint again with correct paint systems.

Salt-like impurities: Some salt-like impurities appear on the layer

+ Causes: Moisture from outside, poor surface preparation process

+ Solutions: Find the source of the moisture to seal it properly, create air flow in the affected area. Remove the affected layers, wait until it is dried completely then paint again with high quality products.
